He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Sr. Nell and Barbara Nell (Floyd); and his stepson Randy Miller. He is survived by: his wife Victorene (Miller); his brother Ralph; his daughters, Kimberly Asbury, Angela Oldham, Brianne Hart and Cassie Hayter; and his stepson Robby. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

He was a Boy Scout and his sophomore year of High School, received the Sears and Roebuck Foundation Scholarship award from the Boy Scouts of America.
