He is survived by: his wife Sumiko; his daughters, Patricia Fitzgerald and Kay Acholonu; and his grandchildren, Chima, Chika and Chioma. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund of the World Health Organization.
