He was predeceased by: his parents, Clyde Whalen and Barbara Whalen; his stepmother Helen; his siblings, Diane Leitz, Larry, Bob, Mark and Jeff Whalen; his brother-in-law Bob Leitz; his son David Todd Whalen; and his grandson Brent Whalen.

He is survived by: his wife Burnetta Bradley of Moxee; his brothers, Jerry Whalen (Donna) of Idaho and Greg Whalen of Oklahoma; his daughter Ginnel Childers (Dane); his grandsons, Mark Childers Sr. and Jamie; his great grandchildren, Mark Jr. and Mason Childers of Hermiston; his grandson Rhett Whalen (Christine); and his great grandchild Eli.
