He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph E. Smith Sr. and Ida Helene Foxley Smith; his granddaughter Cara Cherie Tomia; his wife Dorothea Dell; and his son Tyler Joseph Smith.
He is survived by: his daughters, Tamara Dayton (Mike) of Idaho Falls, Tawni Taylor of Boise and Tara Smith of Rigby; and his siblings, Jay Smith, Andrea Collicot, Rebecca Cook, Christine Allen Ford, Jennifer Johnson and Miles Auckland. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and a new great-great grandson.
