He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Marylee; his children, Brandon, Ryan and Tanya; his children-in-law, Erin, Ellie and Jason; his grandchildren, Anna, Reid, Maeve, Sullivan and Chloe; and his brother Udo.

“I met Joe while we were in high school at the Verdun American High School. We were both Army/Air Force brats. Joe and I shared many memorable times in the dormitory, where we lived during the week and went back to our respective bases on Friday evening only to return on Sunday afternoons to start another week of school. Joe and I had many classes together and together we published the Falcon Times, our school newspaper. We kept in touch over the years and attended several reunions together”
