He was predeceased by: his parents, Bill Thompson and Mabel Thompson; his brother James Nowlin; his wife Roberta; and his son Steven.

He is survived by: his children, David Thompson of Everett, WA and Karen Thompson (Pat Marquess) of Cowiche, WA.; his grandchildren, Ted Thompson (Meghan), Jason Thompson (Stacy), Jimmy Ruth (Christal), David Thompson Jr. (Kim), Amy Rosser (Peter) and Sarah Thompson; and his niece Wena Dove.

As active members of the Moose Lodge, he and Roberta enjoyed spending and donating their time to the charity.
