He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Beulah Spencer and Paul Spencer; his former wife Sherrill Lucille Spencer; his wife Sherry; his children, Paula Lomax, Jeff Spencer and Michael Spencer; and his grandchildren, Crystal Connors, Michael Lomax, Stefany Mhyre, David Spencer and Richard Spencer. He was also cherished by six great grandchildren.
He was president of his fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha, and was awarded a National Science Foundation award.
