He was predeceased by: his parents, Stanley Knutzen and Violet Knutzen (Eliason); and his brother Edward. He is survived by: his wife Diane Taylor; his children, Gregory (Kathi), Gretchen (Ed) and Geoffrey (Mary); his grandchildren, Grant (Kate), Stephanie (Christian), Shaun (Sara), Kay, Kelsey (Chris) and Kristine; his great grandchildren, Jack, Henry, Lillian and Carmen; his sister Nancy Esary (David); and his sister-in-law Marsha Knutzen. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In 2009, to honor his many contributions to the school, SVC dedicated and opened the Gary Knutzen Cardinal Center on campus.
