He was predeceased by: his son Earl Johnson Jr.; his former wife Marilyn Johnson; his parents, Vance Johnson and Mabel Johnson; his siblings, Vance Johnson, Vernon Johnson and Helen Harvey; and his stepchildren, Jo Ellen Linnell and Jerry Edson.

He is survived by: his children, Ronald W Johnson (Linda Weeks) and Cheryl Neff (Ernie); his grandchildren, Chad Neff (Kim), Jayci Shaddy (Paul), Ryan Neff (Jaime) and Damian Johnson (Rita); and his stepchildren, Veretta Edson, Jan Haddock (Dennis) and Jon Edson (Nancy). He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
