He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlotte Bates (Hoffman) and Edwin Bates. He is survived by: his wife Debbie Bates (Marll); his children, Dusty Powers (Kristi) of Pasco, WA and Brenda Bates of Burbank, WA.; his grandchildren, Kenny, Madisen, Kaylee, Morghan, Rylee, Nathan, Jazmyn, JoJo and Bria; and his brothers, Charles Bates of Bellingham, WA and Curtis Bates (Kimberly) of Soldotna, AK..

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Benton-Franklin Humane Society in Kennewick, WA.
