She was predeceased by: her parents, Ki Taek (Cha) and Yong Ja; and her husband Richard William Smith, Jr.. She is survived by: her daughter Nancy Smith-Vela; her son-in-law Ariel Vela; her grandchildren, Ari Vela, Jr. (Cyndi) and Alexandra Vela-Browning (Nick); and her great grandchildren, Poppy, Luka and Cruz. She is also survived by wife and mother to her family.
With the onset of the Covid pandemic, the family felt it would be better if Soon Ja moved to Woodinville, WA to live with her daughter and son-in-law, where she resided until her passing.
