She was predeceased by: her husband Earl J. Smith, Jr.; her parents, Lubertha Ross and Dan L Ross; her stepfather Dan L Ross (Lubertha Ross); her brother Terrence Ross; her children, Ronald Beard and Katherine Beard; her stepson Earl Smith III; and her granddaughter Jocelyn Ragsdale.

She is survived by: her stepchildren, James Smith, Jacqueline Nichols, Mary Rocillo and Lita Oetken; her siblings, Donald Ross, Gloria Taylor and Tami Ross; her grandchildren, Kim Forte, Rashaud Emperado, Candice Washington, Leanard Haynes, Lauren Robbins, Mallory Smith and Alexandra Beard; and her close friend Shirly Gilford. She is also survived by other relatives and friends.
