He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Waldo Van Valin and Pearl Nancy Van Valin (Wells); his grandson Colin Alexander Chelini; his wife Kathleen Joy Van Valin (Filan); and his brothers, Forrest W. Van Valin and H. Frank Van Valin.
He is survived by: his children, Philip Van Valin, Karma Chelini (Steve) and Brian Van Valin (Sofia); his grandchildren, Vernon Van Valin, Aaron Van Valin (Renee), Heidi Paulson (Matt), Brock Chelini (Rhiannon), Miles Chelini (Shelby), Cody Chelini (Holly), Linda Naomi Van Valin and Kaleb Van Valin; and his great grandchildren, Gavin, Chloe, Lenora, Dawson, Chevelle, Kellen, Mitchell, Christian and Levi. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
