He was loved and cherished by many people including: his daughter Ella Johnson Larrick; his granddaughters, Kimberly Ann Bodnar (Paul), Kathryn Sue Unruh (Loren) and Sara Colson Ahola (Jason); his wife Patricia Thompson Colson; his stepdaughter Laurie Patricia Robison; his grandchildren, Bryan Bodnar (Grace) and Emily Choi (Eric); and also Donald Robert Robison (Shelby).

Later life: Dean suffered from Parkinson's Disease and dementia caused by Parkinson's Disease.
