She was predeceased by: her parents, Sonoji Sakai and Yoshiko Sakai; her siblings, Toshio Sakai, Chiyoko Okamoto and Yaeko Yoshihara; her husband Sam; and her daughter Naomi Anne.
She is survived by: her siblings, Nobuko Omoto and Taeko Takahashi; her sons, Bruce (Marilynn) and Bill (Pam); her grandsons, Zachary Nakao (Lindsey) and Eric Nick (Katrina); her great grandchildren, Raiden, Ryder Nakao, Emmett and Sawyer Nick; her adoptive son Butch Lundin; and also, Masami Bruce and Minidoka.
The family asks that any donations in Kay's memory be made to BIJAEMA's Kay and Sam Nakao Fund which will support the next phases of the Exclusion Memorial; or to the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum, or a charity of choice.
