She was predeceased by: her husband Zentaro "Tom" Maekawa; her son William K. Maekawa; her grandson Scot Maekawa; and her sisters, Kimi Mizuta and Chie Onchi.

She is survived by: her children, Nina Chinn (Yick) and Don Maekawa (Kiyo); and her daughter-in-law Sanaye Maekawa. She is also survived by her children and being "Bachan" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
