He was predeceased by: his parents, Delbert Ashford and Leona Ashford; and his brother Marvin. He is survived by: his wife Beatrice Nelson; his daughter Anne Marie Douglas; his stepsons, John Hiles (Tracy) and Steve Hiles (Wendy); his siblings, Delberta Kyle, Rodney Ashford (Brenda), Dennis Ashford (Sue) and Robin Freedman (Jerry); and his sister-in-law Judi Ashford. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and one great grandchild.
