He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Earl John Withers and Lucille Isaphene; his sister Nancy Lee; his former wife Melva Marilyn Wolcoff of Anchorage, Alaska; his children, Robert Junior (Mary) of Lenoir City, Tennessee and Ruth Kristi (Brad) of Eagle River, Alaska; his wife Amy Juarez DeJillas; and his sons, Eric of Puyallup, Washington, Kyle (Christine) of Milton, Washington and Michael (Marne) of Denver, Colorado. He was also cherished by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was able to incorporate part of this into a winning essay for the Freedom's Foundation Medal in 1968.
