He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis Nichols and Ruth Nichols (Brigham); his former wife Marion Nichols Garvey (Watkins); and his brother Fred Nichols. He is survived by: his wife Alice Little Nichols (Edmunds); his sons, John Nichols of Ponte Verde, FL, Richard (Diana) of Tyler, TX and David (Jane) of Springfield, VT; and his stepdaughters, Patricia Peck of Dillwyn, VA and Jane Ruggles (James) of Lyndonville, VT. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces & nephews.
