He was predeceased by: his parents, John B. Gillies (Jack) and Alcista N. Gillies. He is survived by: his son John Douglas Gillies of Burlington, VT; his former wife Susan Halstead; his sister Glee Gillies Noble; and his spouse Susan Waterous.
