Milton F. Sanderson, (87), of Rutland Vermont, passed away on October 26, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Milt was born to Fordyce and Katherine (Ackley) Sanderson on August 7, 1936, in Shrewsbury, Vermont. He graduated from Rutland High School in 1954 and attended the University of Pennsylvania graduating in 1958 with a BS in Civil Engineering. After graduation, Milt returned to VT and was employed by the Vermont Agency of Transportation for 40 years.
A lifelong sports fan, Milt bowled, played softball, and officiated soccer, basketball, and softball for more than 50 years. Exemplifying the highest standards of sportsmanship, conduct and character, Milt was inducted into the Vermont Principal's Association Hall of Fame in 2008. He also enjoyed deer hunting and looked forward to spending every November at his camp in Shrewsbury, VT.
Milt is survived by Donna (Clark) Sanderson, his wife of 58 years. He is also survived by his daughter, Denise Sanderson and her husband Karsten Nielsen of Waltham, MA and his son, Brian and his wife, Jody Sanderson of Center Rutland, VT. He is also survived by his two brothers, Carroll and Paul Sanderson and his sister Linda Olney. Milt was predeceased by his parents, his infant son Kevin, and his brother Donald Sanderson. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Elijah, Molly, Marley, Silas, and his cat, Boots.
The family wants to thank VNA Hospice who supported them during this difficult time. A Celebration of Life will be held at Baxter's Restaurant at the Rutland Country Club on Saturday, November 18, 2023, from 1-4pm. Donations in lieu of flowers can be sent to VNA Hospice at 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, VT 05701. Arrangements are under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home.
