He was predeceased by: his parents, Glenita Diego (Rice) and John R. Diego; and his brothers, Ricardo and Ramon. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Ann Mazuzan; his children, Daphne, John, Christopher and Peter Diego; his grandchildren, Nathan Barcomb, Kate Landrau, Andrew, Emily, Christopher, Nicholas, Tucker and Max Diego; his great grandchildren, Stephen, Kyan Barcomb, Xavier Landrau, Nora, Morrill and Bryn Diego; and his sister Denise Diehl. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
