She was loved and cherished by many people including: her husband Papa; her daughter Caroline Capri Marchant (Todd Marchant); her fiancé Ashley White; her siblings, Joan, Nancy, David, Dan, Stephen and Leo John Jr.; her niece Lisa Marie Schaarschmidt; her parents, Leo John Rickhoff Sr. and Marjorie Caroline Rickhoff; her son Ralf; her grandchildren, Lilli, Ashley, Parker, Tim, Jaxon, Emma, Bry and Bradley; and also Ralf Helmut Schaarschmidt. She was also cherished by his three children.

Here, Nana was the assistant to a physician and was introduced to the American Heart Association. She became the editor in chief for the American Heart Association's magazine, Heart, in 1980 and remained so until 1987.
