He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, Van Ness and Lilian Philip; his wife Sabina FitzGibbon; and his sons, William Van Ness (Jennifer) of Simsbury, CT, Thomas Winslow (Lela) of Greenwich, CT and Peter Sandys (Victoria) of Boynton Beach, FL. He was also cherished by seven grandchildren.

Services will be private; in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Ekwanok Scholarship Fund, (3262 Main Street, PO Box 467, Manchester, VT 05254) or the Hildene Museum, (PO Box 377, Manchester, VT 05254).
