Jean Scott Knight Obituary

We are sad to announce that on April 27, 2018 we had to say goodbye to Jean Scott Knight (Manchester, Vermont). You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.

She was loved and cherished by many people including : her parents, John Dagleish and Jessie Agnes Batty Scott.

After attending the University of Manitoba, she joined Air Canada as a stewardess and then as the airlineââ,¬â"¢s publicist. She met Brian Knight in Toronto in 1958, and they married two years later. Jean and Brian moved to the United States in 1960 and spent the next twenty-five years in New Jersey. She was active with the Junior League and the growth of the Peck School in Morristown, New Jersey. When the children became active with skiing and winter sports, they made Stratton their second home. Brian and Jean moved the family to Vermont in 1985. After moving to Vermont, Jean became involved with the Ekwanok Country Club in Manchester, Vermont serving as a governor and head of the house committee. Drawing from her sense of style, meticulous detail and social grace, Jean guided the club through its centennial celebration and ushered in a fresh era in the clubhouse. Her legacy still permeates through the club to this day. The Ekwanok Board of Trustees recognized her contributions by appointing her the first woman trustee of the Ekwanok Country Club. Jean is remembered for her natural beauty, stoic demeanor and devotion to her family, friends and community. Jean was a wonderful mother, placing the wellbeing of her three children above all else A loving and nurturing mother, she encouraged learning and laughter while emphasizing kindness, and "proper behavior". Over the last 20 years, Jean became known as "Marmie" as her grandchildren joined the family. She had a tremendous love of dogs, most notably her beloved Tigger, a beautiful golden retriever. The two natural blondes were often sighted riding shotgun in Jean's convertible - that displayed her love of all things monogrammed by having a JSK license plate. Her love for animals extended to her "grand-dogs" who would join Tigger to see what might be pulled out of the jar labeled "Marmie's Treats". Marmie was the consummate hostess, as her meticulous attention to detail and geniality created lasting memories for those around her. An unassuming artist - she loved to create beauty through drawing, painting, photography, decorating, needlepoint and cooking. Marmie weaved her love for needlepoint into her love for family. She created personalized needlepoint gifts for friends and family. Imagine needlepoint belts embroidered with representations of your favorite ski mountains, Alma Mater and musicians. One year she created a book called "In the Kitchen with Marmie" filled with stories, lyrics from songs, quotes and gathered recipes from friends and family. Jean's artistry continued to grow through her grasp of digital art creations. She took her love of style, beauty, nature and entertaining and developed a Instagram community. Her grandchildren often remarked how their grandmother had more followers than themselves. The communication from some of her followers revealed how much of an impact Jean's inspiring posts and messages had made. She was also a fierce competitor in Scrabble and Words with Friends. It was hard to beat Jean the Machine! It must have been all those Sunday New York Times crosswords that she would finish in pen! Jean infused everything she did with love. With grace. With kindness. With style. She is survived by her husband, partner and best friend Brian Knight; her children and their partners Karen Bae Knight (Tim Massucco), Gillian Scott (Knight) Rathbun and Dave Rathbun and Brian Lane Knight and Corinne Knight; and her four grandchildren, Blake, Paget, Lindsay and Archer. Her older brother Doug Scott and his wife Wendy, twin brother, Red Scott and his wife Barbara and nieces Susan, Nancy, Robin, Diane and Sharon all live in Canada. A strong, fun and loving family that all received the gift of having Jean Scott Knight as a founding member. There will be a private family gathering at a later date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the Ekwanok Scholarship Trust which provides educational opportunities for Ekwanok caddies.
