He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Marion Mills Philipsen and Dr. William; his wife Mary Marvin Philipsen of Johnson, VT; his children, Marion Philipsen Seasholtz (Matt) of Johnson, VT and Douglas Herman Philipsen II of Glen Gardner, NJ; his grandchildren, Cameron Allen Philipsen of Frisco, TX, Kaitlyn Ann Philipsen of Scranton, PA and Brynn Correll Philipsen of Glen Gardner, NJ; his brothers, David L. Philipsen (Maryanne) of Brandon, VT. and William Alan Philipsen; and his sister-in-law Barbara McGee Philipsen.

He served as Director and Treasurer of several regional YMCA's including Lynne MA, where he received the exemplar of service for his contribution to the stability of the Lynne YMCA.
