He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Rev. John Jefferson Weikel and Grace Rine Weikel; his former wife Carol Beatrice Mason; his children, Melissa Weikel Platzer and David Mason Weikel; his grandchildren, David Santiago and Sarah Platzer; and his niece Megan Weikel.
