He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Mitchell and Edith Mitchell; and his grandmother Gladys Varnum. He is survived by: his former wife Maureen Dougherty; his children, Jesse, Melissa, Valerie and Ethan; and his brothers, Kris and Scott. He is also survived by his four grandchildren.

“Kurt, I will so miss you. We have known each other over 40 years and spent many happy days with our families: camping, swimming, the Warren parade one of the best days of my life. I loved your visits (even though you drove me crazy) I loved our talks and arguments, but we always worked it out because we loved each other. My favorite memory is that you were always checking if everyone was having a good time. When we spent time with you and your family, we were always having the best time.”
