He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Thurston and Eva Thurston; his wife Patricia Jobin Thurston; his mother-in-law Iola "Ma" Howard; and his great grandchild Autumn Rose Brown.
He is survived by: his children, Alfred "Mike" Thurston, Jeffrey Thurston, Loucinda "Cindy" (David Williams), Roann (Peter Ackerman), Peter (Karen Thurston), Rheneé Placey (Douglas Murray) and Forrest Thurston, Jr. (Sherry); his brother Norman "Pete" Thurston; and his grandchildren, Lucky Thurston, Angela Brick, Jeff Thurston Jr., Chris Thurston, Erin Thurston, Skeeter Ames, Davey Williams, Amanda Goodridge, Kelsey Thurston, Cody Thurston, Thomas Placey, Desireé Placey, Amber Stearns and Autumn Thurston. He is also survived by 27 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and great friends.
