He was predeceased by: his parents, Frances Contrucci and Charles Mazziotta (Merritt); his half-sister Lynne Contrucci; his son-in-law Larry Rotondi; and his close friend John Brennan.

He is survived by: his wife Vera Kidder Merritt; his daughters, Jamie Rotondi, Annie Merritt and Lizabeth Merritt; his granddaughters, Gabrielle Rotondi Ryan and Jenna Rotondi; his grandson-in-law Kenneth Ryan; his great grandchildren, Francesca, Annabella and Juliette Ryan; his half-siblings, Jack Contrucci (Denise) and Lee Berchem (Bob); his stepchildren, Robert Taylor (Malinda) and Vanora Wilmott (Mike); his stepgranddaughter Cassandra Shortway; his grandchildren-in-law, Jeffery Shortway and Robyn; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Molly, Hadley, Bentley Taylor and Connor Shortway. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
