It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Anna Purdie Urquhart of Zuni, Virginia, who passed away on October 18, 2024, at the age of 97, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Mattie Evans Purdie and William "Money" Purdie of Zuni, Virginia.; her adoptive daughter Mattie Urquhart of Franklin, VA; and her close friend Sarah Workman of Grey Court, SC. She is survived by: her friend Frank M. Urquhart, Sr.; her children, Desiree P. Urquhart of Windsor, VA, Frank M. Urquhart, Jr. of Zuni, VA and Eileen W. Urquhart (Essex, MD); her sister Vernita M. Elam of Zuni, VA; her grandchildren, Shantina Harris (Baltimore, MD), Kia J. Harper (Jessika) of Houston, TX, Sheila J. Urquhart-Moura of Aurora, CO, Cherice N. Harper Jefferies (Severna Park, MD), Christopher M. Urquhart-Transou, Sr. (Baltimore, MD), Sheri A. Urquhart of Windsor, VA, Ebone W. Urquhart (Baltimore, MD) and Ja'Lisha N. Urquhart of Newport News, VA; her adoptive daughters, Dorothy Montague, Sharon W. Thomas of Zuni, VA, Hope S. Maddox (Baltimore, MD), Margaret Saunders of Ivor, VA and Renee Christy of Manassas, VA; her close friends, Virginia Booker of Smithfield, VA and Joan Williams (Baltimore, MD); her brother James A. Brown (Baltimore, MD); and her caregivers, Regena Joyner of Newport News, VA, Daphne Reese of Zuni, VA, Jennie Roberts of Ivor, VA, Renyta Whitfield of Suffolk, VA, Rochelle White of Portsmouth, VA, Louise, Ella Stephens, Rev. Joseph J. Ferguson of Suffolk, VA, Rev. Larry Simmons, Sr. of Zuni, VA and Rev. David A. Cunningham of Fredericksburg, VA. She is also survived by 23 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing was held on Thursday, October 24th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the CROCKER FUNERAL HOME (900 E Washington St, Suffolk, VA 23434). A celebration of life was held on Friday, October 25th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Calendar Chapel (7366 W Blackwater Rd, Windsor, VA 23487). A burial was held on Friday, October 25th 2024 at the same location.
