It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Sylvia Moore (Woodstock, Virginia), born in Gary, Indiana, who passed away on September 30, 2020, at the age of 94, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Earl Leroy Sheaks and Eugenia; her son Jay; her husband Joe; her children, Dr. Joseph P. Moore III (Jay) of Marshfield, Vermont, Dr. Mimi Rice Moore of Thomaston, Maine, Dr. Christopher Lane Moore of Vienna, Virginia and Dr. Melissa J. Moore of Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.; and her grandchildren, Anna Alexis Loomis Moore, Jackson Kosloff and Lauren Kosloff. She was also cherished by cousins, nieces, nephews, their families and friends.
Depending upon the circumstances with the viral pandemic, a memorial service may be held sometime in the future.
In 1984 she received the Virginia Council of Social Studies Friend of Education award and in 1989 the Greater Madison Foundation (JMU) Administrator of the Year award.
