She was predeceased by: her parents, John Isom and Blanch Whitter Isom; her son Roy James Nelson; her siblings, Mary Johnson, Glenn Isom and Harvey Isom; and her half-brothers, J. D. Isom and Woodrow Isom.
She is survived by: her husband James Nelson of Woodlawn, Virginia; her son Virgil; her daughter-in-law Suzanne Nelson of Stafford, Virginia; her siblings, Nellie A Jennings of Wytheville, Virginia and Delmer Isom of Galax, Virginia; and her grandchildren, Nicholas (Carrie Nelson), Adam (Della Nelson) and Katie Whitney of Boulder, Colorado. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
