He was predeceased by: his parents, Earnest Albert and Inis Hazel Edmonds Chappell; his siblings, Thelma Roberts and Larry Chappell; and his son-in-law Charles Wayne Stoots.
He is survived by: his wife Ida Hall Chappell of Woodlawn, Virginia; his daughters, Evelyn Stoots and Wanda (Ron Spurlin); and his grandchildren, Angela (Steve Wyatt), Kimberley (Robert Blevins), Jeff (Heather Stoots), Jenny (Stacy Reedy) and Beth Anne Stoots. He is also survived by several great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
