He is survived by: his son Duane Alan; his daughter-in-law Sandra Smythers of Woodlawn, Virginia; his brothers, Vinton Smythers (Leona), Clinton Smythers (Sherry) and Bobby Smythers of Maryland; and his stepgrandchildren, Ryan Gibson and Destiny Gibson. He is also survived by seven step grandchildren; fifteen step great-grandchildren, eight step great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
