He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Cavender and Nona Summers Cavender. He is survived by: his wife Tanya; and his children, Tricia Duffee (Mike) of Austin, TX, Russell Cavender II (Christine) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Stephen Lilley II (Marianna) of Waynesboro, VA, Melissa Pollock (Matt) of Falcon, CO and Shannon Lilley (Jen) of Christiansburg, VA.. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org.
