He was predeceased by: his parents, William W. Mergler and Mildred Coleman (White); his wife Linda "Sue" Underwood; his stepfather Edward Coleman; his grandsons, Jonothan Douglas Murray and Sean Douglas Murray; and his brothers, Donald and Robert Mergler.

He is survived by: his sons, William "Bill" Mergler, Jr. and Scott Mergler; his grandchildren, A. J. Mergler and Allie Mergler; his great grandchild Quentin Murray; and his sister Dee Bild.
