He is survived by: his wife Uta; his son Stephen (Laura Alger); his grandchildren, Ashley, Charissa and Richard; his great grandchildren, Makenna, Adelyn, Lawton, Scarlett and Hayden; his brothers, David Alger (Brenda) and Phillip Alger; and his siblings-in-law, Irene Alger and Bob Hawthorne. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
