He was predeceased by: his wife Ruby Matherly Phillips; his daughter Linda Amburn; and his parents, Samuel J. Phillips and Freda Wade Phillips. He is survived by: his sons, Eugene J. (Vicky Phillips) and Marcus (Donna Phillips); his son-in-law Roy Amburn; his siblings, Rudolph Phillips, Carlos Phillips and Eula Tate; and his grandchildren, Abby (Bobby Turman), Kevin Phillips (Kerri Hunley) and Crystal Casstevens (Josh Willard). He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
