He was predeceased by: his parents, James Peyton and Hazel Maury Smith; and his brother Lucius Smith. He is survived by: his wife Helen Smith; his daughters, Karen S. Hogge (Bruce) and Becky S. McDaniel; his grandchildren, John David Hogge (Jennie), Di Cookson (Ryan), Dee Haywood (Phil), Ryan McDaniel (Kim) and Sarah McDaniel-Cagle (Brian); and his great grandchildren, Morgan Haywood, Autumn Cookson and Emerson McDaniel.
