He was predeceased by: his mother Myrtle Neff Lane; and his son Brian Matthew Lane. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Repass Lane; his daughter Kimberly Lane Britt; his son-in-law Jonathan Michael Britt; and his grandchildren, Katherine Fry Britt and Jack Matthew Britt. He is also survived by brother-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

Donations in his honor can be made to the Scott County, Virginia Lifesaving Crew.
