He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Brown Newman and Thelma Newman (Morris); his wife Joyce Marie Newman (Sullivan); his daughter Sandra Darlene Newman; his sister Shirley N. Bragg; his stepmother Bessie Newman; and his sisters-in-law, Carolyn Faye Sullivan and Phyllis Arlene Terrell.
He is survived by: his children, Charles Mervin "Chuck" Newman (Susie) of Waynesboro, William Patrick "Bill" Newman (Ginny) of Waynesboro and June Newman of Fishersville; his grandchildren, Josh Vargas, Jesse Skillman, Elizabeth Skillman of John Stevens, C. J, Brown, Christopher Hilldrup, Daniel Newman, Megan Newman Neal and Aaron Newman; his siblings, James V. Newman (Carolyn) of Waynesboro, Jean N. Droughman of Waynesboro, Sally N. Raines of Waynesboro and Saundra Frazier of Virginia Beach; and his cousin Jack "Frosty" Newman of Texas. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren.
