He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Lee Sheffield and Alice Bowden Sheffield; and his brother Paul Eugene Sheffield. He is survived by: his sister Virginia Fayellen Brooks of Waverly, VA; his daughter Barbara Lynette Sheffield Kepner (Lynn); his grandsons, Philip Cody Sheffield and James Billy Sheffield of Pennsylvania; and his stepsiblings, Mary Lane Hise (Curtis) and Shawn Scott Cowan (Nancy).

Memorial contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 South Crater Rd, Petersburg, VA 23805, in memory of Mr. Sheffield.
