He was predeceased by: his father Clarence Thayer; his former wife Peggy Jo Minnick Thayer; his wife Juanita Poe Thayer; his siblings, Sherman Gibson Thayer and Carol Ann DeBord; and his brother-in-law Robert Earl "Bill" DeBord.
He is survived by: his children, Bradley Wayne Thayer (Renee) of Cedar Bluff, Virginia and Amy Jo Paolucci (Tony) of Blountville, Tennessee; and his stepchildren, Donna Weatherly (Bo) of Birmingham, Alabama, Linda Snodgrass of Abingdon, Virginia and Bobby Barrett of Abingdon, Virginia.. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
