He was predeceased by: his wife Judith Mae Cardova. He is survived by: his children, John L. Cardova Jr. (Gina), James M. Cardova (Jacqueline), Carol L. Padgett (Mike) and Joy V. Kile (Jason); and his stepchildren, Richard Barnes, Wendy Hinton (Val) and Delores Harris (Clyde).
