He was predeceased by: his grandparents, William Otis, Winnie Gray, Rufus Evans and Emma Lohr; his mother Doris Lohr Gray; and his brother-in-law Todd Herndon.

He is survived by: his father James Robert "Jim" Gray (Mayola); his sisters, Naomi Herndon and Amy Barksdale (Chris); his stepsister Melanie Mitchell (Troy); his nieces, Ashley Abate (Joshua) and Abbie Barksdale; his nephew Colton Barksdale; his great-nephew Logan Herndon; and his great-nieces, Indy Abate and Salem Evans Abate.

Visitation was held on Thursday, January 2nd 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Moser Funeral Home, Inc. (233 Broadview Ave, Warrenton, VA 20186). A funeral service was held on Friday, January 3rd 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Friday, January 3rd 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the Sunset Memorial Gardens (3702 Loren Dr, Fredericksburg, VA 22408).
