He was predeceased by: his parents, Layman Albert Cherrix and Bertha Gardner Cherrix of Virginia; and his sisters, Margaret Thornes, Helen Carmine and Mildred "Mickey" Carmine.
He is survived by: his fiancée Margaret; his children, Jenny Cobb (David) of Melfa and Robbie Cherrix (Kahlan) of Accomac, VA; his sister Nancy Shorter of Newport News, VA; his grandchildren, Heather Vinnie (Kane), Tiffany Paul (Keith), Hayley Cherrix, Bobby Cherrix (Sam) and Austin Cherrix (Laura); and his great grandchild Kai Cherrix. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
