He is survived by: his spouse Anne; his sons, Michael Eugene Lanning (Deana), Stephen Walker Lanning and Christopher Glenn Lanning (Shelly); his grandchildren, Gracyn Walker Lanning and Bowden Walker Lanning; his cousin Beverly Jones Brown; his aunt Virginia Jones; his brother-in-law Merm Johnson (Shirley); and his niece Carroll Perry.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad or First Presbyterian Church Youth Center.
