It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Rachel Wilson Matthews of Virgilina, Virginia, born in Halifax, Virginia, who passed away on February 11, 2024, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, William Carrington Wilson and Esma Elliott Wilson; her husband Lawrence Ollie Matthews; her siblings, Edith Clark, W. C. Wilson Jr. and James Wallace Wilson; and her son-in-law J. T. Glasscock.
She is survived by: her children, Dwight Matthews (Sharon), Kevin Matthews (Vicky) and Sharon Glasscock; her grandchildren, Brian Matthews (Tracy), Scott Matthews (Christy), Reggie Matthews (Blair), Adam Glasscock (Krystal) and April McGraw (Nick); her stepgrandchildren, Chris Emory (Lida) and Bradley Hines (Alyssa); her sister Maxine Powell; and her close friend Thomas "Dickey Bird" Puryear. She is also survived by great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
