He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Garland, Sr and Lelia Virginia Harrison McCarty; his brothers, Beverly Leon and Marvin Glenn McCarty; his nephew Mark Wayne McCarty; his sister Mary Louise Ragland; and his brother-in-law George Claudie Smith.
He is survived by: his children, Daniel Ray McCarty and Lisa Kay McCarty Natarajan (Ganesh); his grandchildren, Tia Pegram (Rob), John, James (Jenny), Jordan Peery (Lucy), Micah and Hannah Natarajan; his great grandchildren, Ethan, Ashlyn and Ryan Pegram; his siblings, Roy Garland, Jr and Peggy Ann Smith; and his close friend Shirley Weaver.
